The Estonian Sports Register’s open data is necessary for studies that focus on, e.g., the use of transport services (i.e., to reach sports facilities), access to and use of sports facilities, general movement patterns and probabilities of interacting with other residents in various locations, such as gyms and sports fields.
The Sports Register consists of four sub-databases:
- the sub-database of sports organisations, which includes data on the National Olympic Committee, sports federations, county sports federations, sports associations and sports clubs (e.g,, name of organisation, registry code, type of organisation, information on Estonian Olympic Committee membership, address, geographical coordinates, number of sportsmen);
- the sub-database of sports schools (e.g., name of the organisation, registry code, type of organisation, information on the the Estonian Olympic Committee membership, address, geographical coordinates, number of sportsmen);
- the sub-database of sports facilities, which contains data on sports facilities and sports venues (e.g., name of the facility, type of facility, information on the owner, year of construction, geographical coordinates, address);
- the sub-database of coaches (e.g., name of the coach, county and local government, year of birth, number of the professional certificate, name of the profession and period of validity of the professional certificate).
Some data (e.g., data on the activities of sports organisations, sports facilities) must be updated once a year, while many (e.g., data on the employment and profession of coaches) must be updated within 30 days from their change. The data is presented in XML and JSON formats.
